View Isla Mujeres to Key West in a larger map
Trevor, Karisa and Kiera were coming to the conclusion of their two year cruise from Seattle, through the Panama Canal and back up to Mexico. Karisa was pregnant and it was time for her to fly home, so her brother Derek and I came to Isla Mujeres, Mexico to help Trevor deliver the boat to Key West, Florida.
Lea Scotia was looking great- totally outfitted and ready to sail us across the Gulf of Mexico in safety.
The marine forecast was looking great- tailwinds 5-15 knots all the way across.
The winds continued to lighten as the sun went down, so we motored along to the northeast.
The next morning the winds were completely shut down. This is probably quite abnormal for the middle of the Gulf!
This guy stopped by for a rest. Just a short nap after a very, very long flight.
We continued on- motor sailing.
The gulf stream was pushing us along quite well. Boat speed 5.5, SOG 6.7. Sweet!
We have arrived in Key West. What a super calm crossing.
We had a very mellow couple of nights in Key West before I flew back to Miami and then Seattle via Denver. Great experience. Thanks a lot to Trevor, Karisa and Derek.
